How “treat yourself” became the marketing mantra of the 21st century. (Who can stop themselves from reading an article when Michel Foucault is mentioned in the first paragraph?)

I finally saw Inside Out. Did you enjoy it as much as I did?

Have a great weekend, everyone!Â
Enjoyed reading what Mark Bittman has been up to. I was unaware that he left the Times. I love his recipes and books and hope his new venture is a great success. The site is beautiful and the menu is intriguing.
I enjoy Mark Bittman’s recipes too. His approach seems sensible. It must have been scary for him to take that leap to this new career path!
To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by Inside Out. I think because it was so hyped. Whereas Frozen, I thought, was perfectly hyped.
Thanks for the links! 🙂
I had high expectations going into this one also. I think my favorite scene was the one of the clip I posted. It would have been fun to get the inner “lives” of the other characters more often. Thanks for stopping by!
I hadn’t even heard of Inside Out yet. And haven’t even seen Frozen. Something to do over the holidays. I’ll be checking out your other links soon. Thank you for sharing them.
Both are sweet movies that will tug on your heartstrings a bit. I hope you get a chance to see them during the long, dark winter nights. 🙂
As you know I loved Inside Out – I look forward to exploring the other links. Thanks, Jackie!
I was thinking of you when I was watching Inside Out. I remember that you really enjoyed it. It was a clever way to present emotions to kids. Have a great weekend!
Great roundup, Jackie. Have not seen Inside Out, but I’m pretty much drooling over the book lists. 🙂
Have you read anything lately that you’d recommend? You know I’m always on the hunt for a good book! 🙂
I loved Brooklyn by ColmToibin! Also The History of Love, Elizabeth is Missing, City of Thieves, A Man Called Ove, This is the Water, The Call, A Constellation of Vital Phenomena, and The Goldfinch to name a few. Oh, and Where’d You Go, Bernadette.
Oh, I loved Brooklyn, by Colm Toibin! Such as simple story, but so powerful. I just saw the movie (screenplay by Nick Hornby), which I thought was so well done. It’s getting some Oscar buzz.
A Man Called Ove is next on my list. 🙂
I can’t wait to look for the others. Thanks for the recommendations!
I have not seen Inside Out – can’t remember last time I went to the movie theater. Maybe this will be the weekend. Probably not. Have a great weekend!
That’s the great thing about my movie recommendations — by the time I usually get to see a movie, it’s on DVD. 🙂
First off I always LOVE these! I know I’ve told you this before but go to say it again. These posts rock. Second, I thought Inside Out was pretty awesome. It was such a great flick to watch with my kids. I wasn’t aware of any hype, I thought Frozen was way too hyped up with that Let it Go business but I did enjoy Olaf. The Inside Out characters cracked me up because we’d been trying to personify sass around here so they could tell the difference and that movie helped with all the feelings 🙂 plus that clip you post was so funny. And! And! I love that writer advice link from all those great writers I was digging the one about emotion and also the one about writing people and not characters. Dude! Good post buddy.
Thanks for that! Inside Out was a great way to explain feelings and how they’re always vying for control. Kind of like when I see a piece of chocolate — I want to eat it, but I know I shouldn’t. The internal struggle never ends! 🙂
No … it never ends especially when it comes to chocolate. I lose that battle all the time.
Huh, the snow moves with the mouse – interesting 🙂
I didn’t know that. Cool!
Loved Inside Out! (though now I’ve seen it too many time). “Have the guts to cut” — perfect!
I have a feeling that Inside Out plays on a constant loop in many homes with young children. 🙂
Book page– number 8. Eileen..oh my word. I loved this sick book. Number 12. Is so sweet. Enjoyed it immensely. Are you liking Fates and Furies? I have not read it yet.
I look forward to checking out the gift guides and lists..thanks!
Our Souls at Night has gotten some buzz lately. I hadn’t heard about it at all, and now it seems like it’s on many lists. I am adding it to my (already too long) TBR list!
I’m about 30 pages into Fates and Furies. I had to pause for a bit and now I’m back to it. I’ve been looking forward to picking it up again. I’m also reading the annotated Pride & Prejudice. I read the novel years ago, but the annotations shed so much light on the characters and society.
I heard they were making a movie of Our Souls?
I’ve never read Pride and Prejudice. You’re good to retread it!
I enjoy year-end book lists, so thanks for sharing them both. But I find them intimidating. So many books, so little time…
🙂
I know! I hope to make a dent in my ever-growing list during some of the long winter nights. 🙂
Hi Jackie. I haven’t seen “Inside Out,” but the clip and your recommendation make me want to buy a ticket. Have you read any of the NYT 2015 Best Books? So much reading, so little time. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/12/02/books/review/best-books-of-2015.html?_r=0
Oh, isn’t that the truth! My TBR list keeps growing. 🙂
I skipped over the graves (not literally) in favour of a touch of Disney. Seemed like a good move, Jackie 🙂 🙂 Merry Christmas to you!
To you as well, Jo. Have a joyous Christmas and New Year!
